When preparing for your visit, if you are looking for a new motor inn style hotel which is priced very competitively, then try Chisun Inn Iwate Inter. It is just 100M from the Iwate Interchange on the main expressway (Kitakanto Jidoshado). It has just opened. Details can be found at www.solarehotels.com/english. The family restaurant 4 minutes walk away Tsubaya is very reasonable and offers excellent local food in a warm atmosphere. The new momo no yu hot spring is just 10mins drive away (680 yen for hot spring entry). Enjoy!

Jenny it depends on the year. they have autumnal colors forecast(KOYO JOHO) in Japan that tells you when to go to spots to see the colored trees. In some years,
its a bit early because of the climate of the year, but sometimes its late.

As for Iwate pre. where chuson-ji is located, I guess it is usually between middle of October and the beginning of November. you can search info with the keyword of "Koyo", "Iwate" and so on.
