while travelling in Takayama, you see this cute no-face doll at any gift shops. This Sarubobo(monkey baby) doll was originally made by local women for their children/grand-children wishing they are free from troubles and keep good relationships with people around them. Derived from this reason, these dolls are now made and sold as a good luck charm. one of the most popular souvenirs in Takayama.

this area is my most favorite area in Takayama. the streets are lined with a variety of stores such as traditional ware shops, antique shops, restaurants serving local dish and traditional inns and so on. walking down this street really makes you feel as if you slip back in time to Japan’s old time. Hi. its been for a while since I checked this blog last time. I wanted to introduce amazing Japanese historical sites in Takayama. As you know, Takayama is very popular site for visitors for its traditional buildings and countryside atomosphere. I was longing for visiting Takayama for a long time and was finally able to visit there during the past long holidays.

I wanna introduce some places I visited there. the first one is this museum. its a collection of about 2500 pieces of Japanese old paintings and folkcraft-articles collected by Dr.Fujii, a local doctor. There were old hina-dolls made in about 270 years ago and some other notable works.

Like other traditional buildings on the street, this museum is wooden construction building and makes you feel Japan’s old time.
