This is another weird island in Matsushima. The shape of this island is a result of erosion caused by the ocean waves. the reason why its called “Nio-jima(Deva kings->the guardian gods of a temple gate)” is, its shape looks like a man sitting on the surface of the sea with a hat on his head and a cigarette in his mouth.

This is one of the well-known islands in Matsushima(by the way, Matsu means pine tree in Japanese, shima means island so its literally pine tree islands.. haha) called “Kane-jima(bell island)”. when the wind hits the holes of the islands, it makes sound like clanging the bell.
We also went to next prefecture called Miyagi. there is one of the most beautiful spots, called “Matsushima”. it consists of thousands of tiny islands…it was hard to believe but thats what guide said to us. we took a cruising tour boat to see around. it was pretty cold when you feel the ocean wind on the boat, but it was quite fun!!
there were so many tiny islands there. it could be thousands if you count up these ones.
