In Japan, the "Amusement Park" refers to a collection of amusement rides, shows and other attractions assembled in one place for the entertainment of a large number of people. Often they will have special themes, or showcase local features or products, and aim to attract a wide range of visitors--families, couples and groups, of all ages and interests.

Universal Studios Japan is the theme park which brings the magic of movies to life. It is the first Universal Studio outside the U.S. and is located in Osaka, the second largest city in Japan. An actual, working film set for historical movies and programs, Eigamura opened as a theme park for the public in 1975 in order to liven up the sagging film industry. A Spanish theme park set up like Costa del Sol. Visitors can enjoy the atmosphere of Spain through various shows, parades and attractions. Facilities include a hotel and hot spring baths. 9. Meiji-mura (Meiji Village)   [Map 9]

Meiji-mura (Meiji Village) was opened in 1965, as an open-air museum for preserving and exhibiting Japanese architecture of the Meiji period (1868-1912). It occupies an area of 1 million square meters, on which almost 70 Meiji-period buildings have been brought and rebuilt. There are also Meiji streetcars and locomotives still in operation to provide visitors with transportation.

Fuji-Q High Land is the amusement park located at the foot of Mt. Fuji. 11. Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise   [Map 11]

A seaside theme park located at the tip of Yokohama Bay. There is an amusement park with Japan's first surf coaster that swing out over the ocean, and one of the largest aquariums in Japan, featuring over 500 varieties of fish or more than 100,000 sea creatures in all. 13. Kamogawa Sea World   [Map 13]

Kamogawa Sea World of Chiba prefecture is the complete marine leisure center. The aquarium is most famous for its killer whale and dolphin shows. Visitors can also experience various events and mini-tours held throughout the facility, as well as exhibits of numerous sea-dwelling creatures. The aquarium has more than 11,000 animals of 800 different species, displaying a wide variety of sea life in their distinctive habitats.

TOKYO JOYPOLIS is located on the third through fifth floors of Decks Tokyo Beach in Odaiba the hottest entertainment area.
