What is Suica? -JR EAST cashless tranportation IC card-

"Suica" is a convenient IC card usable on most railway systems in Greater Tokyo. Users pass through automatic ticket gates where a touch on the scanner at start and end of a trip will automatically deduct applicable fare for the traveled section.

This is how handy "Suica" is.

Advantage 1:
Easy to get on the train, just "Touch and Go"! (except Shinkansen).
Move around Tokyo area with smooth transfer.
Advantage 2:
It is rechargeable on the ticket machine. Once recharged, it is cashless!
Advantage 3:
It covers Transportation facilities beyond a use of JR within the wide range of Greater Tokyo. You can even enjoy shopping with Suica!

How To Use-Going Through Automatic Ticket Gates-

One-touch lets you through ticket gates (Touch & Go). The personalized Suica Card will automatically calculate and deduct the adjustment fare at the automatic ticket gate. To make absolutely sure of smooth gate entry and exit, hold the card flat as you touch the gate scanner. A "peep" or "peep-peep" sound denotes a successful scan. As long as Suica makes full contact with the scanner, the card can be used as it is inside the pass case.
* Suica cards cannot be used for Shinkansen trains.

1. Check the direction of the ticket gate's traffic arrow.

2. Firmly touch the card against the scanner denoted by the Suica symbol.

* Do not insert the Suica card into ticket slots of gates, as this may damage the card.
* Use just one Suica card. Do not carry more than one IC card i n the pass case.

3.Touch the scanner and it will respond with a "peep-peep", a long "peeep" or "pi-pi-pi-pi-pi" sound.
  • The "peep-peep" sound denotes the use of a Suica card.
  • The long "peeep" sound denotes a Suica card with insufficient monetary balance, so please check the gate's display message (item). The "pi-pi-pi-pi-pi" sound denotes an unsuccessful scan. Please firmly touch the card against the scanner again.

    4. A message will be displayed when you pass through a ticket gate.
  • Utilization charge and balance will be displayed.
  • A message is also displayed even when you do not pass through the gate.

    Where To Purchase

  • Suica is available as a one-card-for-one-person system
you cannot use multiple Suica. You cannot transfer a Suica stored fare balance to another Suica.

  • Money Recharge / Stored Fare Balance Display
