Map of Naoshima
Bennese Art Site Naoshima
Naoshima Map Naoshima is a scenic island bathing in the Seto Inland Sea; it lies north of Takamatsu City in Kagawa Prefecture. "Benesse Art Site Naoshima" refers to the contemporary art activities under the aegis of Benesse Corporation. Its philosophic goal is nothing less than employing a gorgeous physical environment to showcase contemporary art along with outstanding architecture within the embrace of Naoshima's allure and distinctive culture. From its original concept as the Naoshima International Camping Ground, presently Benesse House, the Art House Project and like facilities along with assembled artwork resonate to the pulsations of nature and culture surrounded by a peaceful sea and sending forth to the world a message of vibrant, artful creativity.
Chichu Art Museum
chichu art museum Located on the south side of Naoshima, in 2004, Chichu Art Museum was created to posit a fresh look at the relationship between people and nature. Artwork by world renowned masters as Claude Monet, Walter De Maria, and James Turrell are on permanent exhibition in the superb Tadao Ando designed building. Based on the art and archives of Monet, Chichu Garden replicates the fauna collection cherished by the great artist who focused his art on the personally designed garden for his Giverny home; it consists of roughly 150 plants and flowers with about 40 different trees that perfectly mirror seasonal impressions. In this garden Eden, the visitor can enjoy a two-fold experience, to stroll amongst beauty as well as to admire and understand the intimate relationship with nature as Monet observed, sensed and recreated on canvas with his brush. In the pleasant cafe, visitors can relax while enjoying a splendid view of the Seto Inland Sea. Private tours can be arranged upon request. Art House Project
Art House Project Kadoya Art House Project is a permanent artistic endeavour borrowing the town of Naoshima as a staging platform. Artists remodeled seven old houses, transforming the interior of each domicile as an artistic creation open to public viewing. Each individual area is designed so the historic antecedents of those who once resided there converge seamlessly with tradition and Japanese aesthetics. In the ten years since the completion of the first residence in the "Kadoya" project, the houses are no longer simply works of art to be viewed by a public, but have gradually become part and parcel of the townscape. Ideally, this on-going project will continue to create opportunities to rediscover and shape anew expressions and characteristics of the town. This project is created by meshing art, architecture and the all-important contribution of the local community. Art House Project,HaishaArt House Project,Ishibashi

Benesse House
Yayoi Kusama: Pumpkin Opening in 1992, Benesse House is the core facility of 'Benesse Art Site Naoshima' with the stated mission of advancing the concept of art and architecture coexisting in harmony with nature. The main building, designed by Tadao Ando is located on a plateau on the island's south side facing the Inland Sea; the museum is spacious with open spaces designed so visitors always sense a warm, enveloping nature. Here, art works conceived and produced specifically for this site are on permanent exhibition blending with the bucolic surroundings of Naoshima and the prize winning architecture of storied Tadao Ando. In keeping with his concept of incorporating surrounding natural spaces with his structures, the splendid collection of art is displayed in formal exhibition spaces, but also along the coastline and within the forest encircling the museum. "Oval", "Park" and "Beach" are accommodation facilities in the art complex, as well as a restaurant, cafe and bar. Enthralled visitors will delight in viewing an art collection splendidly set amid unforgettable Naoshima Island. Benesse HouseBenesse House Oval
