| Nikko World Heritage Area |
Designated since 1999 as a World
Heritage Site, the "Shrines and
Temples of Nikko" made up of
Toshogu Shrine, Rinnoji Temple, and
Futarasan Shrine that contain many national treasures and important
cultural properties. Inside Nikko National Park, a visitor can appreciate
Japan's cultural predilection for integrating
architectural buildings within a
beautiful natural setting in harmony with
each seasonal change. Japan's garden-like
landscape interwoven with lakes,
mountains, and waterfalls is bound to
awaken in the visitor a delicate aesthetic
experience. Nikko National Park (1934) and
the Okunikko region (2005) were
registered under the Ramsar Convention.

* A special bus is available to visit World Heritage
Sites. (Nikko Sta.- World Heritage Sites - Nikko Sta.)

Moved here from Tokyo in 1899 for Prince
Taisho (later Emperor) to promote his
health, this refurbished imperial residence is

Alternatively called 'Bake-jizo', 'Narabi-jizo'
(Jizos in a line), or 'Hyaku-jizo' (100-Jizo), a
