Gifu - Japan's Heartland -

Gifu Winter Gifu Prefecture, located in the center of Japan, is a rarity in the island nation in that it is not bordered by an ocean. From the lush low-lying Oku-mino Region to the mountain ranges that soar at 3,000 meters above sea level in the Hida Region, the changing seasons are as different as the land that embraces them. The cherry blossoms in spring, the vivid green of summer, the brilliant autumn colors, and the fine winter snow all offer a superb vision of the Japanese seasons. Through traditional crafts, festivals and more, you will encounter the timeless excellence inherent to the unique and deeply rooted cultures of each region, which have been preserved through the ages. There are numerous onsens (hot springs) within Gifu Prefecture. Among these are Gero Onsen (one of Japan's "Three Famous Hot Springs") and Oku-Hida Onsen Village, an area well known for its abundant warm waters and outdoor spas. Here, you can refresh both mind and body in the soothing arms of nature.

These offer fully furbished facilities with courses designed for the beginner and advanced skier alike. The ski season reaches its peak in late December.
