Gifu - Japan's Heartland -
Gifu Prefecture, located in the center of
Japan, is a rarity in the island nation in
that it is not bordered by an ocean.
From the lush low-lying Oku-mino
Region to the mountain ranges that soar
at 3,000 meters above sea level in the
Hida Region, the changing seasons are
as different as the land that embraces
them. The cherry blossoms in spring,
the vivid green of summer, the brilliant
autumn colors, and the fine winter
snow all offer a superb vision of the
Japanese seasons.
Through traditional crafts, festivals
and more, you will encounter the
timeless excellence inherent to the
unique and deeply rooted cultures
of each region, which have been
preserved through the ages.
There are numerous
onsens (hot springs)
within Gifu Prefecture.
Among these are Gero
Onsen (one of Japan's
"Three Famous Hot
Springs") and
Oku-Hida Onsen
Village, an area well
known for its
abundant warm waters
and outdoor spas.
Here, you can refresh
both mind and body in
the soothing arms of nature. |

Onsen |
The Oku-Hida Onsen Village is made
up of the Hirayu, Shin-Hirayu, Fukuji,
Tochio, and Shinhotaka hot springs,
which lie at the base of the Northern
Alps. The abundant warm waters and
fantastic scenery make this area perfect
for relaxation and enjoyment.
The 3,200m long, 1,033m
high Shinhotaka Ropeway, is
also located at the
Shinhotaka Onsen. You can
ride the 2 story gondola, and
enjoy a mid-air stroll through
the mountains at 2,200m
above sea level. A panoramic
view of the winter
wonderland below is waiting
for you at the Shinhotaka
station observation deck, the
Ropeway's final destination.
