| KURASHIKI CITY |
 |
Kurashiki City is as good a choice as can be for the traveler seeking to discover 'authentic'
Japanese culture and history. A thriving commercial hub since feudal days with important
rice shipments from its busy port, it continues to prosper in part for the nostalgic aura still
wafting through ancient streets and many current cultural attractions. Kurashiki's rich past
and present cultural attractions has been a magnet for famous artists and many of the
finest representatives of Japanese culture who often exhibit their works or just come to
enjoy this beautiful town. Kurashiki is proud of cultural facilities such as the Ohara
Museum of Art, Japan's first privately owned gallery to display works by unsurpassed
painters as El Greco, Monet, Gauguin, Picasso and sculptor Rodin to name but few. The
benign climate yields delicious fruit, seafood and excellent locally brewed sake that
creates a mouth-wateringly good local cuisine. |
