Steeped in ancient 'Izumo' mythology, Shimane features the magnificent Adachi Museum of Art, and also its own UNESCO Heritage Site, the ancient Iwami Silver Mine. A major player in Japanese culture, industry and history, Yamaguchi boasts of the authentically preserved castle town in Hagi City. Located at the Kanmon Strait, scenic Shimonoseki City has been the stage of numerous important historical events through Japanese history.
