| Yuzawa hot spring harks back over 800 years. The thermal water is a weak, simple
alkaline, claimed to possess great healing qualities, especially good for recovery from
aches and pains. Many of the 'onsen' can be found just west of Echigo Yuzawa train
station. Hot springs are found in practically each of the 'ryokan' (Japanese style inn)
as well as easily available in public hot spring baths. Healthy, enjoyable bathing in
Yuzawa is close-by for all visitors.

baths in Yuzawa, established prior
to the publication of 'Yukiguni' by

famously lodged in the near-by
'Takahan Ryokan'.

Yuzawa Kogen Gondola
building, the large bathing pool
overlooks the lower ski trail.

One of the largest in the world - accommodating
up to 166 people from town level up to
Yuzawa Kogen. The thrilling ride takes you up to
a magnificent view of the town and surrounding
area, with added seasonal attractions.

At the mountain summit, as well as an unequalled panoramic alpine
vista, there's an awesome 706 meter mountain-side toboggan run for
summer thrills and the calming beauty of
an alpine flower park featuring hundreds of
varieties of seasonal flowers.

Folklore History Museum |

Yuzawa is recognized throughout Japan as
'Yukiguni'. Visitors are invited to learn of the
town's past history and how the locals coped
with accumulations of 3 and 4 meters of snow
in winter. This museum also displays
Japanese-style paintings of 'Yukiguni', and
personal mementos belonging to Nobel
Literature laureate, Yasunari Kawabata.
