The ideal place to rest, relax, and experience traditional Japan A popular recreational area for the stressed out people of the Tokyo region, Izu peninsula is especially well-known for the restorative power of a multitude of 'onsen' hotsprings. There are literally hundreds of hot-springs, as well as many hotels and classic 'ryokan', to adequately house the throngs of holiday makers. Also, here are many beautiful and historic spots, sophisticated art museums and amusement parks.
Japanese cuisine at its most delectable is another fine reason for planning a visit to this area. It is justly reputed for mouthwatering dishes of succulent giant crabs, skipjack tuna and unusually tasty dishes created from greens harvested from the local sea. A bowl of freshly picked and refreshingly sweet loquats (similar to apricots) usually provides a delicious desert and a good end to a gourmet meal. |

| | WEST COAST |
| The western coast of Izu Peninsula features the double pleasure of an invigorating bath in an outdoor spa that includes on one side a splendid view of Mt. Fuji and on the other the wide open blue sea. Heda, Toi, Ugusu, Dogashima and Matsuzaki are famous spas located on the western coastline featuring hot-springs justly reputed for therapeutic effects in treating a variety of illness and diseases. While relaxing in the health-promoting waters, the bather can fully relax and enjoy an unobstructed view of the setting sun. |

| | NAKA IZU (CENTRAL IZU) |
Naka-Izu is the central part of the Izu Peninsula. This area has numerous historic and high-quality hot springs (onsen) such as Izu-Nagaoka, Shuzenji, Amagi-Yugashima, and Kawazu. Less well known but worthy of note, the area is one of Japan's biggest producers of 'wasabi' (a sharp but tasty horseradish) and the local cuisine offers many 'wasabi' flavoured dishes. Joren Falls with a perpendicular 25 metres drop to a pristine forest is well-worth a detour. |
